Congratulations to our Gold Star award winner Andrew
Andrew Baker was diagnosed with FND in October 2022 and started attending physiotherapy sessions at ARC shortly after. When he first came to the clinic, he was walking with 2x Canadian crutches and was unable to walk long distances as his legs would give way.
He also had a history of multiple falls and was unable to stand unsupported. Since October, he has been attending 2 sessions a week in clinic.
In our sessions, he has been working on a various walking and running drills, balance, lower limb coordination, lower limb strengthening and dual tasking. After a long year of therapy, he has not only achieved but smashed multiple goals!!
On 4th August 2023, he finally was able to achieve his goal of walking independently. During this session he also ran for the first time since he was hospitalized. He also achieved all his activity-based goals such as being able to go grocery shopping. He also smashed his other mobility goals!
Finally, he has also achieved his goal of returning to work.
Since August, he has made leaps and bounds in his function and now is looking at Olympic lifting and returning to the gym. His next goals are to be able to walk 500m-1km unaided and walk further and out in the community. The amount of hard work and effort that Andrew has put into every single session has been so worthwhile and deserves to be celebrated.
