Gold Star Award for Carmela
Congratulations to our Gold Star award winner Carmela
Carmela has been coming to ARC since 2021, right after she sustained a brain injury from a procedure to remove cancer in her head region. She was initially struggling with balance, so everyday tasks were difficult, including walking outdoors and going downstairs.

One of the big goals she set with her Physiotherapist Kumbelin and Exercise Physiologist Lisa was to return to bushwalking.
Since then, Carmela has been working very hard in her 1:1 and group sessions focusing on lower limb strength, endurance, cardiovascular fitness and balance, she continues to progress in all her outcome measures. Outcome measures are one way to show improvement, but this huge achievement from Carmela demonstrates just how far she has come since day one.
This year, Carmela completed a 4-day hike with her friends in Cradle Mountain in Tasmania. They hiked over various terrain and carried heavy packs for most of it! Carmela says it was one of the hardest, yet most rewarding physical challenges she’s ever done!
She’s now working on her next goal, to return to running. Congratulations Carmela! We are so happy to be able to share your progress with you. Looking forward to seeing what challenge comes next.
