Gold Star Award for Pete
Pete’s journey with Multiple Sclerosis
Pete aka “Fin” was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 12 years ago and started working with Advance Rehab Centre in 2021. When asked about how he reacted to his diagnosis Pete said
“Every aspect of my life has changed. The future I had planned had to be re-evaluated and the relationships in my life had to be adjusted. I needed to change my goals in life.”
Pete’s therapy goals are all geared towards his overarching goal of staying involved with the community and helping other people with disabilities.
Pete receives weekly Exercise Physiology sessions in his home with Jason and monthly Physio reviews with Sarah Sargeant. Sessions include strength training and cardiovascular fitness training as well as functional balance exercises all geared towards improving his mobility and endurance in the community.

Since starting structured therapy Pete has improved his balance score by 4 points and has improved his timed up and go mobility time from 28 seconds to 8 seconds!
Jason and Pete have bonded over their love of music and listen “Pete’s Wall” playlist during sessions to increase motivation and enjoyment. They also work on Pete’s ability to dual task as an ex-roadie he has a story or some trivia about every band or singer that comes on!
“Pete’s attitude and ability to adapt are inspiring. Regardless of what is happening with his MS symptoms he gives 100% effort in every session and he does it all with a smile on his face. The fact that Pete’s therapy goals are all based around improving his mobility so he can give back to the community sums him up the type of person he is.” – Jason King
What Pete loves in his EP sessions is boxing, this dynamic form of therapy challenges not only Pete’s physical ability but also his cognitive skills.
On his experience with ARC Pete said
“ARC has also given me a lot of physical tools/skills which I draw on daily. These help my independence greatly. I feel if I was left alone I would require a wheelchair to access the community.”
Awesome work Pete, keep up the great work!
