Gold Star Award for Jonathan

Congratulations to our Gold Star award winner Jonathan.

Jonathan sustained a stroke during October 2021, which affected his ability to walk and perform functional everyday tasks at home and to return to work as a water treatment technician. He first started coming to ARC during April 2022 and has been working with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and exercise physiology.

Jonathan’s stroke had a major impact on his daily life as he was unable to return to work full-time as a water treatment technician, found it difficult to assist at home with domestic tasks such as cooking and cleaning, struggled playing soccer with his son at the local park, and was unable to participate in his hobbies of woodwork and carpentry. Jonathan even lacked confidence with walking in busy areas such as shopping centres and crossing roads efficiently with traffic lights due to his unsteady walking and fatigue.

Jonathan has attended a combination of physiotherapy intensives focusing on general strength, mobility and balance, weekly running group and neurogym classes, occupational therapy intensives focusing on improving his upper limb and activities of daily living, and finally weekly exercise physiology sessions focusing on improving his fatigue, cardiovascular fitness, and overall strength.

Despite the challenges he has faced, Jonathan has always brought in a smile to his sessions and has always put in 100% effort. Jonathan has put in all his time and trust to invest in his therapy team and has all always been willing to put in the hard work to achieve his goals. I can proudly say that Jonathan is now walking in busy areas such as shopping centres with improved confidence, he has returned to working full-time as a water treatment technician, is playing soccer with his son at his local park and is crossing roads with traffic lights with greater ease and quality of movement.

This month Jonathan has been given a Gold Star Award to highlight his tremendous progress since his first session in April 2022 by successfully achieving his goals of being able to return to work full-time, to play soccer with his son at his local park, to improve his confidence in busier environments, and to participate in return to running drills. Congratulation Jonathan, and I’m sure there is still more room for improvement with your bright future ahead! Keep up the awesome work!
