Getting Wheely Active at ARC: A Community Afternoon of Adaptive Cycling
Last week, Advance Rehab Centre’s Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Hub came alive with wheels, sunshine and smiles as we hosted our Wheely Active Biking Experience, supported by Freedom Solutions Australia.
What started as a simple invitation to “come and try” turned into something much more powerful: an afternoon of movement, confidence-building and genuine community connection.
Movement, Freedom and Possibility
Throughout the afternoon, ARC clients and members of the wider community had the opportunity to explore a range of pedalled and powered adaptive trikes in a safe, supportive environment.
For many, it was their first time experiencing adaptive cycling.
There were recumbent trikes, supportive frame designs and powered options that made cycling accessible regardless of balance challenges, strength limitations or neurological conditions. Participants rode at their own pace, asked questions, and discovered what was possible with the right equipment and guidance.
The transformation was immediate. Hesitation turned into laughter. Curiosity turned into confidence. And for some, a simple ride around the car park became a powerful reminder that movement can still feel freeing, fun and independent.

Why Adaptive Cycling Matters
At ARC, we know that meaningful movement goes beyond exercise, it supports physical health, cognitive function, confidence and social connection.
Adaptive cycling offers:
- Cardiovascular and strength benefits
- Improved coordination and balance
- Cognitive stimulation
- A sense of independence
- A shared social experience
