Walking Strong: Parkinson’s Marathon Walk 2025

The Parkinson’s community showed incredible strength and spirit at this year’s Parkinson’s Marathon Walk in Sydney, an event proudly supported by Advance Rehab Centre alongside the inspiring Dean Team.

With 267 people taking part and over $20,000 raised for programs and research, the 2025 Walk was the biggest and most impactful yet.

A Day Built on Connection

From the early morning marathon starters at 6am through to the last walkers crossing the finish line, the day was filled with determination, encouragement, and community spirit. Volunteers, families, and clinicians joined forces to make sure every participant felt supported and celebrated.

For Dean Laws, who lives with Parkinson’s and has been the driving force behind the Walk, the true highlight wasn’t the numbers — it was the way people worked together:

“Because everyone stood up to play their role, I made it to the end! It was a blessing just to watch it all unfold.”

What Made 2025 Stand Out

Community physiotherapy is especially impactful for:

  • Record participation: 267 registrations — the largest group in the Walk’s history.
  • Fundraising success: More than $20,100 raised to date for Parkinson’s programs and initiatives.
  • New community elements: From raffles and a sausage sizzle to stalls hosted by research partners, the day offered something for everyone.
  • Movement in action: A group PD Warrior exercise session drew nearly 100 people, showing the power of exercise-based therapy for Parkinson’s.

The feedback from walkers, carers, and families was overwhelmingly positive, with many remarking on the supportive, welcoming atmosphere.

Why Advance Rehab Centre Gets Involved

At Advance Rehab Centre, we see every day how important connection, exercise, and encouragement are in helping people with Parkinson’s live stronger, more independent lives. Events like the Marathon Walk are a chance to celebrate those values outside the clinic, while raising vital funds for future programs and research.

Gratitude and Looking Ahead

A huge thank you goes to Dean, the Dean Team, the organising committee, and the many volunteers who gave their time and energy. Most of all, thank you to the participants and families who walked with such determination — you are the reason this event continues to grow.

We’re already looking forward to seeing how the Parkinson’s Marathon Walk evolves in 2026 and beyond.
