The Evidence Behind the Treatment of Cervical Dystonia

Evidence supports a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to the management of cervical dystonia. While botulinum toxin remains the gold-standard treatment for reducing abnormal muscle activity, research shows that combining medical management with physiotherapy, exercise, education, pain management, and psychological support can improve function, reduce disability, enhance quality of life, and promote long-term self-management. This patient-centred approach addresses the physical, emotional, and social impacts of cervical dystonia, leading to more comprehensive and sustainable outcomes.
