Have you thought about the benefits of introducing some Pilates elements into your rehab program? ARC neuro physio and Pilates instructor Hannah tells us a little bit about her NeuroCore group.
What exactly is NeuroCore?
NeuroCore is a low impact Pilates based exercise program aimed to target the common problems people have with a neurological condition. It works by focusing on the core and other key areas to provide a foundation of strength and stability to the body. It also assists to improve posture by increasing flexibility and body awareness.
How does it help people with neurological conditions?
NeuroCore will help you identify and target those areas of weakness as well as stretching to gain range of movement and to help to improve symmetry in the body. It will help focus on control and coordination to improve balance and functional activities such as standing, transfers and walking.
Who do you currently treat in the classes?
The NeuroCore clients that are currently attending the classes have a range of conditions. The majority have been diagnosed with MS or PD but there are also client who have Charcot Marie Tooth, spastic paraplegia and stroke.
Are there any criteria for coming to a class?
Clients need to be able to stand independently and get on and off the floor with minimal assistance (although our Telehealth participants do it on their floor or bed at home). Clients also need to be able to follow verbal and visual instructions.
All clients require a full 1 hour NeuroCore assessment prior to attending the class to learn the fundamentals required for core activation. If you are interested in our NeuroCore group classes please get in touch or have a conversation with your therapist.
