Staying active and fit is difficult at the best of times. But add the Covid-19 pandemic then keeping physically active becomes even more problematic. Restrictions and self-Isolation has meant fewer opportunities for physical activity, with individuals spending the vast majority of their time at home. Gyms have been closed. Incidental exercise falls away. Physical activity routines are broken.
However, Jean Pierre (JP) didn’t slip into a sedentary lifestyle. In fact, during social isolation JP had a well established exercise that becomes more important to boost his immune system and reduce the chances of chronic diseases.
Here is an example, JP had followed during COVID isolation:
- 30 mins walking outdoors using a 4 wheel walker by the assist of his support workers.
- 15 mins stationary bike.
- 20 mins following his documented home exercise program by the assist of his Carers.
- Another 30 mins of outdoor walking+ 15 mins stationary bike in the afternoon.
- In addition, JP enjoyed boxing for 15 mins with his physiotherapist once a week.
JP is a role model of staying active despite the lockdown and re-adjust the daily routine with a big smile on his face.
I personally enjoyed working with JP during that unique and hard time. Thanks to his ABI supportive team – it couldn’t be done without you!
