We are so proud of you Ian!
After a long stint in hospital, Ian was severely deconditioned and also put on more weight whilst bed bound in hospital. Due to being bed bound, he lost his ability to be independent, and required 24 hour assistance with all his activities of daily living.
Ian has worked with his occupation therapist Anne to source equipment to make his daily chores that little bit easier. Anne then referred to our physiotherapist Eileen who in collaboration has been working with our exercise physiologists Jason and Felix and have been providing Ian with an intensive block of therapy to boost his strength, endurance, mobility and transfers.
When Ian first started his bout of exercises, two therapists were required to assist Ian in standing and walking due to his severe deconditioning. With hard work and discipline, Ian built up his strength very quickly and only required one therapist thereafter to continue his therapy.
Initially, he was only able to walk around his unit and back to his bed, now he is able to walk outside and back to his room with just stand by assist using his frame and at the end of April Ian had just gained the ability to stand independently. In 4 weeks, he has completed 350 sit to stands and counting! 2 weeks ago, Ian was unable to balance without using his arms for support, today he is able to stand for 90 seconds unsupported.
Every session he is motivated and keen to commence, he is always persevering to get stronger and be more independent. Team Ian has been extremely excited and proud to see his progress.
Keep up the great work Ian!
