Colin is one of our amazing gold stars this month!
Colin was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) around 12 years ago. During this period, Colin has experienced profound difficulty in utilising the strength in his legs for activities of daily living, thus leaving Colin in a position whereby he is only able to walk short distances with a walking stick and mobilises predominately with a wheel chair.
Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive neurological condition where the immune system ‘eats’ away at the protective covering of the nerves. This results in message transmission disruption between the brain and the body.
Prior to ARC, Colin would exercise at his home with the assistance of carers and use of a recumbent bike.
Colin has been receiving a more intensive and multidisciplinary rehabilitation approach since January 2020, where he received once a week one on one Physiotherapy and Exercise Phyisiology and once a week group therapy. His therapy was also supplemented by a home exercise program. Colin is now able to walk distances up to 110meters with greater speed/endurance and standing tolerance. His walking speed for a 10m walking track has halved since his first assessment. Going forward we will continue to work on his walking endurance, lower limb strength and balance both at ARC and from his home.
Colin has a “can do” attitude and continues to amaze the team with his results in such a short time frame with us!
