Viv joined the ARC family in December 2018 after suffering a large haemorrhagic stroke which changed her life.
Following her stroke Viv suffered with left sided weakness, poor sitting balance, cognitive changes and the inability to use her right upper limb to complete functional tasks. This meant that Viv relied on full time carer support to help her and assist her husband Tony in completing her daily tasks.
Viv was lucky to find an awesome carer in Jenny.
Jenny has worked with physio Ceri to learn exercises that she can do with Viv daily to ensure that Viv remains comfortable and active each day. She assists Viv in completing a home stretching program; Jenny also sets Viv up on the MOTO med bike, which allows Viv to actively and passively move her legs. By completing these exercises daily her muscle tone has reduced, which greatly improves her overall pain levels and sitting posture, it allows Viv to sleep better at night, and improves her overall health and well-being.
Viv has engaged in ongoing Physiotherapy sessions at ARC to work on improving her sitting balance, posture, right upper limb function, her overall activity levels and the ability to stand using the correct equipment.
Viv reports that she enjoys coming to physio sessions because she feels motivated and challenged. She enjoys the feeling of moving and loosening her legs when using the bike. Viv enjoys standing at the tilt table, and although extremely challenging, she also enjoys standing with the assistance of the Thera trainer, as she likes the feeling of placing weight through her legs and feet. In standing, Viv can exercise her right arm, she especially enjoys playing the balloon tap game!
Well done Viv for your ongoing hard work and dedication to therapy!
Thank you, Jenny, for being a number 1 carer and friend to Viv, I am not sure what she would do without you!
Viv and Jenny, we love having you in our ARC family!
