Following a fall in November 2018 Gordo suffered a lumbar spine fracture and nerve damage in his foot, additionally during his hospital stay Gordo found out he also had autoimmune encephalitis. When Gordo made it out of hospital, he was hardly able to get out if his room, as he required two people to assist him with all movements and mobility. Gordo received a gold star in September 2019 as he “walked 10 meters on his own with the 4-wheel walker in a time of 33 seconds”.
Gordo continues to work hard at his nursing home and with his ARC team and in March 2020 he climbed a flight of 30 steps with 2 hand rails, walked 10m with a walking stick on his own and was able to stand and reach without his hands!
Gordo has a positive attitude and dreams of being able to get back to sailing. Well done on your progress Gordo!
