“I’m so glad I participated. I wasn’t keen at first, not being at my athletic peak (which at best was more a hillock than a mountain), but met others living with PD as I am and, egged on by team barracking, pushed myself further than I thought I would. Thanks to you and the ARC staff for putting the Games on. Put me down for 2020.” Stephen.
Last weekend we hosted the first PD Warrior Games Day at PD Warrior HQ in Sydney. The day was designed to bring our PD Warrior community together for a morning of competition, comradery and fun!! Three teams fought it out for the Games Day 2019 honours. Among the activities were 6 team competition stations and the final ‘Pushups 4 Parkinson’s’ relay.
Points were awarded at each station for ability, effort and participation. All of the stations were thoughtfully designed by the ARC therapists to be inclusive but challenging enough and fun for all – this was no mean feat!! We even designed a special piece of equipment called the “Cannonball Carry” that JoineryOne were able to make for us.
Overall the day was a huge success, with an average rating of 4.7 and 93% declaring they will be coming back again next year! The feedback was exactly what we had set out to achieve: Fun, competition and comradery. Many people met others who attend the centre on different days and many brought family and friends along for support.
Look out 2020 for the GLOBAL WARRIOR GAMES!!
