In 2018 we first met Sandra who came to us with a background of spinal cord injury and the goal of regaining as much independence as possible.
We have been working hard over the last 10 months to build more leg strength towards standing and walking and Sandra is giving it her all whether she’s doing mini squats on the tilt table, working on leg control in the parallel bars or walking in the gym with a forearm support frame.
In the second half of 2018 Sandra had to undergo further radiotherapy which was certainly a set back for leg strength and fatigue levels but we applaud Sandra for sticking with therapy throughout working on the knowledge that to keep active and keep exercising has a positive impact on fatigue levels and helping to sustain strength during that time.
Now out the other end of radiotherapy Sandra is back to higher energy levels and is focussed on getting the best recovery for herself that she can. Her trunk control and function in sitting has been improving steadily and she is now fully independent with her transfers using a sliding board and can reach for things with much more ease.
We have some big goals and some hard work set for 2019 but we have every confidence that Sandra will rise to the challenge to give it all a really good go!
Well done Sandra, you really show determination and great spirit in all that we ask of you!
