LARRY PARKER – JOURNEY BACK HOME
Larry parker suffered a huge right sided stroke over 2.5 years ago which resulted in left side hemiplegia. After a strong stint in hospital rehabilitation with some recovery, Larry still had a lot of goals he wanted to achieve from rehab. He found the ARC team in November 2014 who have come a long way in achieving his goals and still working together to reach further goals.
When he first started with us Larry had limited movement and strength in his Left leg and almost zero function in his Left arm. He had not returned home and was mobilizing with a quad stick for short distances. Larry initially enrolled in our specialised intensive stroke rehab program for 2 weeks. His first big mile stone was learning how to climb 30 stairs so he could finally return to his unit with his wife. This took a lot of hard work and dedication on his behalf but he made it.
His latest milestone took a lot of courage and commitment from Larry and the team of physiotherapists and exercise physiologists at ARC. He managed to walk from his unit all the way down to Drummoyne wharf and from his unit down his extremely steep driveway and 20 steps to his pool.
He has regained significant strength and function in his left leg but still has a fair way to go. Together with Larry and the support of the ARC team we aim to achieve even bigger and better things!
