Mary has Parkinson’s disease and was seen at home by our physiotherapist Kat Moles. She wanted help with her Parkinson’s symptoms, to increase her strength and stop having falls. Her goal was to get back to walking outside as the time she was housebound.
She presented with a complex history of dizziness and on further questioning this revealed a background of BPPV (benign paroxysmal positioning vertigo). This had been treated previously but had her symptoms suggested this had reoccurred.
During the first home visit, her BPPV was treated successfully and then she started on a PD Warrior home exercise programme. She has completed her exercises every day for the past three months! Her hard work has paid off and she is now back out on the streets walking to the shops and catching a bus to get to her iPad lessons! Her dedication in completing her exercises has been the key. The secret to her success? Deciding when she would do her exercises and sticking to it!
Mary’s success illustrates something physiotherapists know all too well.
Commitment, repetition, hard work and ambition (goals) = ACHIEVEMENT.
