Jake came off his dirt bike nearly 3 years ago at the age of 15. He sustained an incomplete C1/2 Spinal Cord Injury, among other injuries. He initially had a tracheostomy to help him breath and was told he might never walk again. Jake has been attending Advance Rehab Centre since May 2015. He is now independently mobile without aids and is functional within the community.
In the last few weeks, Jake has been working with his therapists on his long standing goal of being able to get up off the floor without using holding on to anything They’ve been trialling numerous techniques and working on developing strength in the extensor muscles of his legs, balance and flexibility. Jake stunned both his family and therapists this week when he arrived to his session with a new technique he’d been practicing.
Not only did he achieve his goal of getting up off the floor but repeated it successfully 10 times in a row!! To watch his style, follow this link!
Jake will be celebrating his 17th birthday this Friday. Happy birthday from the team at ARC Jake! Lets just say this goal might come in more handy after your next birthday, the big 1-8!
